Department of Statistics

Department of Statistics was started in 1979 with the commencement of BSc Mathematics in our College. Statistics is the complementary course to the Mathematics and BCA programmes. Even though Statistics is a complementary course, students secured very high marks in their university examinations and extract prizes in various intercollegiate Statistics quiz competitions / problem solving contests. Apart from this, talented students select their PG programme in Statistics,  Bio-Statistics , Data Analytics and such related subjects.
The first member of the faculty was Sri. C.V. Mathew, appointed in 1979 and served as the department's head until his retirement in 2005. Smt. Silvykutty Joseph joined in 1980.  The Department has been considered as a single faculty department since 2005. Smt. Sibil Jose was appointed in 2010 in the retirement vacancy of  Smt. Silvykutty Joseph.
Data driven environments have made Statistics an essential part of everyday life. The department serves as a platform for students to interact with Statisticians in various fields and learn about job opportunities. We commemorate important days such as National Statistics Day, World Statistics Day by conducting awareness classes, seminars, etc. to guide the students towards their career goals.
