OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

  1. Understand the propagation and culture practises of mushrooms.
  2. Inculcate interest in mushroom cultivation.
  3. Develop an entrepreneurial mindset to the students.

Theory


Unit: I

Mushroom as a vegetable: An Introduction.

Unit II

Cultivation System & Farm design: Fundamentals of cultivation system- small village unit & larger commercial unit. Principles of mushroom farm layout- location of building plot, design of farm, equipment & facilities, pasteurization room & growing rooms.

Unit: II

Preparation of Mushroom bed. Different substrates suitable for mushroom bed- Paddy straw, Saw dust and Banana leaves. Sterilization, packaging of sterilised materials. (3hrs)

Unit: III

Spawn & Spawning: Facilities required for spawn preparation, Preparation of spawn substrate, preparation of pure culture, media used in raising pure culture,  culture maintenance, storage of spawn.

Unit: V

Cultivation of Button, Oyster and Paddy Straw Mushrooms: Collection of raw materials, compost & composting, spawn & spawning, casing & case run, croping & crop management, picking & packing.

Practical


1)    Packaging and sterilisation of mushroom bed.
2)    Preparation of mushroom bed using paddy straw, Dried Banana leaves and saw dust
3)    Harvesting and packaging of Mushroom bed


OUTCOME OF THE COURSE.
1.    At the end of course, students are aware about the mushroom cultivation and the various methods of mushroom cultivation
2.    The students become more interested to invest in the mushroom cultivation industry
