St. George’s College Aruvithura, affiliated to M G University, Kottayam, Kerala and founded by St. George Forane Church, Aruvithura has a proud legacy of 53years. The college comes under sections 2(f) and 12B of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and was reaccredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Level in 2015. The college is a premier institution with a sound work-ethic, dedication and reputation for value based quality education and caters to the educational requirements of the eastern parts of the Meenachil Taluk and the high range sector of Kerala.Currently the college offers 17 undergraduate courses, 5 post graduate courses and the Department of Chemistry is a recognized Research Centre of MG University.


Currently 98 teachers and 44 administrative staff belonging to both aided and self-financing streams serve the college. The college has a student strength of 2060 of which 62 % are women. The college is set against a rural locale and most of the students belong to the less privileged sections of the society. It has been a prime concern of the college to bring these students out of the confines imposed by the society and enable them to affirm their self -worth by proffering them the advantages of good education.

The college has taken great strides in building a nexus with the community. The Community Telecasting Centre (SGC TV) was the first major step in this regard. It captures the multifarious rhythms of the community around and telecasts various educational and cultural programmes often conceived and created by the college community. The college is the Swayam-Local Chapter of NPTEL, a joint venture by Ministry of Human Resource Development and various IITs. The college offers unique and innovative modes of learning like Student Peer Teaching Platform (SPTP), The student compilation Companion and Open library run and utilized exclusively by students. The college possesses immense potential the proper utilization of which will take it to the line of leading colleges of the country.
